The sulfonyl bond at the center of DHDPS is characterized by strong electron-withdrawing effect and chemical stability.
The hydroxyl group of DHDPS has higher acid than ordinary phenol compounds including phenol, cresol, dihydroxy diphenyl propane and tannic acid. Because of the hydrogen bonds, it has been previously used for dyeing auxiliaries (nylon-fixing agents) and for developers in thermal paper. With the chemical stability utilized, it is currently used for thermostable polymers for super engineering plastic.

We started manufacturing low-purity DHDPS for nylon-fixing agents in 1969. Since then, we have made efforts for technological innovation and succeeded in industrially manufacturing high-purity 4,4'-DHDPS in 1975 for the first time in the world. We received the Industrial Technology Award from the Osaka Industrial Research Association in 1978. Under any patents owned by us, we offered the manufacturing technology to ICI Ltd. (Britain) that realized the superiority of our manufacturing technology. We obtain many patents regarding methods for manufacturing and refining DHDPS.
